Backfire on gearchange

Unread post by Auzziemutt » September 19th, 2017, 2:53 am

my A2 has begun backfiring on gear change and when going down hill with foot off the accelerator. Not huge bangs but quite audible. From my mechanicing days I seem to remember it can be caused by a leaking manifold , not sure which one though. In all other respects it runs well. I need some advice before I start pulling bits off. Thanks. Col.

Combination of leaking exhaust manifold and running rich. Most likely place for that kind of leak is the joint between the manifold and the exhaust pipe.

Since that last post I have tried Rapco, TJM, Red River, WilleysParts, Original Repros, Surplus City , Truck Parts , and Ebay with no luck. One isn't responding and one has no 151 parts in inventory any more, so do any of you know of a supplier of exhaust/ inlet manifold gaskets . I made the present ones myself but the exhaust only lasted one year. I need real ones. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies . Howard, Kemperer only have the inlet gaskets. Horst , Reomie don't show any manifold gaskets. There is a company in Sydney that make them, no-one in Brisbane, it takes weeks but I may have to go that way. Thanks again. Col

Hi,
you can try TeeJeeper in Thailand. I have ordered by him already one full set of engine gaskets.

Thanks Vietnam Mutt I just tried them also, they have the inlet gasket and a full gasket set but the illustration doesn 't show an exhaust gasket. not one I recognise anyway. I think I'll have to get them made. Thanks again.
