Trans Seal Removal
Like many of you I have struggled to change some of the transmission seals, Even with a seal puller "which doesn't seem to work too well" I still deform the outer ring of the seal to get it out by carefully driving a punch or awl around the perimeter of the seal. I tried a new method of taking a 1 inch wide piece of sheet metal and tacking it to the metal part of the larger seals and yank on that and out it pops in seconds. Especially difficult was the little one around the four wheel in/out rod. I took two pieces of sheet metal 3/4" wide and 31/2" long, and formed a half circle on each end ,placed it around the rod but exposing the metal of the seal and tacked the sheet metal to the exposed metal on the seal, gave it a quick tug and out it popped. I have never had them come out so fast before.Anyone else ever try it? I used my MIG welder. I will do this from now on. Oh and yes i know enough to remove the three bolt seal holder and push that one out from the back.
Re: Trans Seal Removal
Good idea, I will have to try that since my shifter seal has been leaking for years.

Re: Trans Seal Removal
Rick, after i welded the metal pieces to the seal i separated the opposite ends an welded a rod between them and hooked a dent puller to that and out they pop. Slicker than snot on a doorknob.

Re: Trans Seal Removal
nice idea, however sounds you have a lift so welding under the car is not an issue?

I don't know, I think you run it up on a set of ramps you should have plenty of room.
