Exhaust manifold

Unread post by Bucolic » October 15th, 2017, 10:16 pm

Can the exhaust manifold be removed without taking the intake manifold off? I may have to replace my exhaust manifold because the flange for the header pipe may be bent.
I had a complete exhaust installed and I was told the flange was bent. Thing is, he didn't say if it was the flange on the manifold or the header pipe. Either way, I've now got a miss and I believe it's caused by a leak.

The bottom middle part of the intake is what is used to bolt down the center portion of the exhaust. Don't see trying it as a good idea. Even if you had room to slide exhaust out rearward with the intake loose, you are not going to want to reinstall sliding it back in... old models used a graphite paste to seal while the newer ones had gaskets. Both would best be served by seating the exhaust on, not sliding across.

The answer is no, the manifold has to come off to get the exhaust manifold out. BUT, an exhaust leak will not cause a miss.

I'm doing that job right now and there's no way to do it without taking both off.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully what's bent is the flange on the pipe and not the one on the manifold.
