You need to take the Bendix gear off the old starter and fit it to the new one.

Take the bendix off as an assembly, do NOT take it apart!!! You will have things flying all over the place and even if you do find all of the parts you will probably not be able to get them all back together.

Okay, never done this. Why wasn't the new starter shipped with gears on it ? What do I need to put the gears on without messing it up.
Does anyone have this gear that I need for sale ? I bought it as a spare and don't have extra parts laying around. Thanks Guys.

Acu.... the Mil issues the bare starter only. If a mechanic wanted a starter w/Pinion Drive End, he/she would have to order that item separately.
If it's a new starter you have bought, the surplus dealer would probably have only the bare starter. The pinion drive end comes separately unless you request it at the time of ordering.

The instructions on how to install the pinion drive end are in TM9-2320-218-20-1-1 Section 5-17, pages 5-32 and 5-33. If you don;t have these pages, e-mail me and I'll send them to you.

Kind regards....

Rick.... I don't deny any of it. I don't have my own mobile 'phone because I don't know how to operate one. If you think I'm kidding, I had to take my wife with me to War & Peace this year because she is the only one who knows how to use it. If you don't believe me, ask Big George :D :D

ps... I'm not allowed to handle money either.

pps.... Thanks to Mike (Acudanut) for emailing me the dataplate details of the trailer. He probably knew I couldn't operate a mobile (cell phone). :D
