Steering Tie Rod Sleeves?

Unread post by m75 » January 3rd, 2018, 7:08 pm

Any interchange information for replacing the sleeves next to the tie rod ends? The -20P and -34P both show each side as pre-assembled with the tie rod ends. I have replacement ends, etc, and the original sleeves seem to have become "one" with the old ends, preventing the removal. I'd like to drop into local NAPA or similar if possible.

All you would need to know is diameter and thread but I can't ever remember buying a sleeve from a parts store. Doesn't mean they don't have them. If they have them in stock just find one that screws onto the tie rod end and you are good to go. It should have right thread on one end and a left thread on the other end.

My 34P dated April 1968 shows them on page 160 Fig.75 as Sleeve Item # 7 part # 7703453 but no NSN, and Item #5 Clamp part # 5283346 also no NSN. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all, especially the older -34P reference (I don't have that one, and when I checked the posted edition, it only referenced the assembly as a whole, not just the sleeves.

Happy part is that a little work with the NAPA counter guy found a suitable replacement that now graces the installed tie rod mounted on the truck! Now on to the front brakes, so I can get this portion wrapped up.

Ken,

A quick trip to the trash bin revealed:

NAPA Chassis, #269-1109 (a sub-set number is D073BA, don't know if this is relevant to a computer search or not). Cost for two sleeves was just under $40.00 USD.
