Early M151 Jerry Can Attachment
Tried a search but not much luck... Did the early ones use a different strap than later models? Does anyone have pictures of how it should be configured? Thanks.

The very early 151's had a hole in the body that the strap came through on top.

Got that hole. There is a footman loop mounted on the inside underneath it. Does not currently have footman loops on either side of where the can goes.

I thought the top strap went through the hole and hooked to a footman loop??, I have an early one I can get a picture of if needed.
Re: Early M151 Jerry Can Attachment
Yes...it should go through the hole but Surveyor wanted pics of the 2 other locations and this was a good clear photo.Hambone wrote:I thought the top strap went through the hole and hooked to a footman loop??, I have an early one I can get a picture of if needed.
There was also a clinch-plate fitted to the driver's side rear bumperette which was soon dropped from production. Its purpose was to restrain the bottom rolled edge of the can in place.

I wonder if there is any significance to the letters CARC on the bumperette? That was a long time before CARC paint.

Re: Early M151 Jerry Can Attachment
Thanks for the photo. I see it in Doyle's book but yours looks better.I see this pic as well as other that has a loop at the top below hole. Strap does not appear to utilize the hole in both images - top loop only. I've seen other posts that said it does and you say it's supposed to as well... If loop is for top strap like on page 12 and 14 then what was the hole for? Antennae wires? Looks like I need to replace a couple loops either way.
Ill check in the morning but i think i have the clinch plate you refer to on this one.
CARC - CONTINENTAL ARMY COMMAND as per Doyle.
