M151A2 Oil Pan Gasket

Unread post by clemeje » January 29th, 2018, 8:02 pm

Anyone know if there's an aftermarket cork oil pan gasket out there? I bought an NOS one from AJP but it arrived broken. This is the second one that I obtained (first one dated 3/62 & second dated 8/62) both were so brittle that shipping broke them. The front and rear rubber was fine in both though. Just about to finish up engine but need a gasket.

Could make your own. Use the bad ones as a template. AutoZone and similar stores sell rolls of the stuff which will be a hell of a lot newer . Good utility knife and a hole punch and you're in business.

Check with places like Front line and Red River, There should be gaskets out there from at least the 80's. If not, like was said, get material and make your own. I would use the oil pan itself for the template to get the outside outline and hole position and then use one of the other gaskets for the width to the inside line. This way you KNOW the holes are in the right place.

Thanks for the suggestions Surveyor and Rick. :D I believe I'll go down to AutoZone or O'Reilly's today and get some material and make my own. Will also post some pics soon of the restoration progress. Thanks again, FE

Old spent rifle and pistol brass make good makeshift hole punches. But you only get a couple holes per each before the brass deforms.

Great idea, I was going to buy a school punch to cut the holes with but have quite a bit of used brass lying around. Will grind it down sharp with a dremel, should work great.
