M151A2 Rear Spring Mount

Unread post by m75 » February 1st, 2018, 11:17 am

I've been removing the rear suspension pieces, brakes, etc for cleaning and replacing as appropriate.

The truck had been modified previously by extending the coil springs by inserting the rubber cushion between coils, in addition to using oversized Monroe shock absorbers that are in contact with the frame due to their size.

Question: The upper end of the coils were inserted into what appears to be a square pocket of stamped metal inside the frame opening for the coil. The pocket extends from the frame, with four tabs sticking out, and it doesn't appear to be of original design. I see no reference for such an item in -20P or -34P. Has such an item been a standard M151A2 fixture? I'll try to add a photo soon.

The original spring pocket was part of the rear unibody . It was basically formed into the frame so there were no added pieces whatsoever. Sounds like someones home made lift kit.

A couple of hammer taps, and the modified mount fell right out, leaving the original spring seat exposed. After seeing all of the modified suspension on this truck, I'm surprised one of their trail runs didn't result in parts exploding out from underneath after a serious whoop-de-do.
