The rear door frames of a lot of refrigerated trailers are made of magnesium and we had several times where we had to deal with them in fires when I was in the fire company. If you flood them with enough water it will cool them to the point that they will go out. Not easy and not always successful. Usually by the time it went out there was no door frame left to burn.  Same with the mag wheels. The one thing to remember is that this stuff does not light with a match, It takes a lot of heat to get it to light off. When we tossed a little one inch cube into a campfire that had two days worth of hot coals it still took an hour for the cube to light, It is not unstable like sodium or phosphorus.

Had a guy once tell me that a tracer round could ignite a wheel. I guess he was full of BS.

Tracer, no. Incendiary, yes. You can set it on fire if you hit it enough times in the same place with 5.56 rounds due to the extreme high velocity and the heat they produce on impact. It takes a lot of hits in a concentrated area and all the conditions have to be just right.
