Brake Line Connection

Unread post by Surveyor » May 19th, 2018, 4:54 pm

I need to replace the 3-way brake line connection at the rear of the straight. The current one is broken away from the connection tab and was held up in the air (just above the drive shaft by the hoses  ). The FSN is 4730-00-678-1880 based on page 145 of Tm -20P. I can't find this particular part at the usual places. I do see where armyjeepparts has the front 3 way connection which is 4730-00-678-1879. Only difference I see is the connection tab is flat for the front versus a 90 degrees for the rear. Thinking of just bending a front one. Thoughts? Anyone know of a source?

The part number is 10939512, CONNECTOR, MULTIPLE, FLUID PRESSURE LINE. I have had luck with unusual brake fittings with Red River as well as (ebay) "govsurp". Hope this helps.

Well that does not look like the same connector that was on mine. The one I had has the three way with T pointing down. it is attached to an upside down "L" tab with the nut on top. Can someone share a pic of this area for a straight or a1? The ones above look like the bottom of the T would face toward the front or up if I bend it.

If I remember correctly bending did not work, I ended up welding the 90 degree tab onto a front one.

Well that explains it. Thanks for the picture Hambone. I don't have the hole through the crossmember with grommets. It's solid in that area. They routed underneath. When I first saw the setup so close to the drive shaft I thought it was a bad design. They must have realized the same at some point.

My early one doesn't seem to have a hole in the channel for the brake line, it does have a hole in the channel lip like yours for mounting the T, it still has the T mounted to the rubber line and it has the straight mounting bracket not the one with the 90 like the one on the A1, someone disconnected the brake line, so I can't help with original routing. I do have another early one that might have original lines if you need help with routing, it's at the farm, may be a day or two before I go there.

How many noticed the riveted panel under there? How many other areas are riveted on that early?

Well there is a reinforcement piece on top of the back end of the driver side rear fender near the jerry can secure point that is rivited. Can't think of anywhere else at the moment. In most picures i've seen the area between and just behind the front seats is covered by a plate spot welded down to the bed. In my case it is quite a number of rivits. At each end it appears that the bed is slightly depressed under the panel. Just a guess on my part but I'm thinking by the number of holes on each fender that they may have routed the power cable under this plate before they started making a cover specifically for the purpose of protecting the driver side radio cable. ????

I think my buddy has one of those mini cameras. Might take a look inside. Keeping my fingers crossed that it came from Fort Knox.

I know this isn't it but I'd think you could get this to work. (not mine)
