Horn Snag

Unread post by gcbennet » May 24th, 2018, 7:08 pm

So my horn doesn’t work, hasn’t since I got the vehicle. I did the troubleshooting step by step through the TM and it always comes down to the horn switch. Gives high resistance, so IAW the TM it’s inop. Put a new one in and same thing. At this point I’m wondering if the switches are fine and it’s a ground issue. Does the button ground itself to the column through the clip? Or is there something I’m missing?

Have you checked to see if the column is grounded to the body? touch the horn wire at the button to a jumper to a known good ground. also check to male sure there is power on that horn wire all the way up to the horn button.

hi

if it is a A2
there is at the Hardy steering coupling a little wire over it to ground the steer
if this is broken or lost the axle must take his ground trow the top bearing

On further inspection I found the corroded remnants of the little ground wire on the steering joint, so it is definitely a contender. It appears to be permanently riveted though. I’ve done all of the troubleshooting tests and the failure point is in the horn button area. When I removed the old button from the steering wheel a part of the little clip snapped off so I’m also wondering if the button itself relies on that clip to function as ground to the steering column and my broken clip just isn’t cutting it.
