Rust Inhibiter

Unread post by cstinson » May 31st, 2018, 11:20 am

Has anyone ever used a product called "CONQUEST" ? It is a rust inhibiter that turns black when applied. I am looking for a source to purchase some, as I had only a small sample. Appears to work very well.

There are many different products out there that do that same thing, just look for rust reformers. It is turning the rust, which is iron oxide into iron phosphate. Most all of them are phosphoric acid in some form or another.

I have been looking into alot recently. I was very interested in Ospho because I had read good things about it. But I believe a product called Prep and Etch made by Klean Strip is about the same thing. I bought a gallon at Home Depot for $15.XX a gallon of Ospho is about $26. Its even the same green color. I got it 2 days ago ago and tested. It and it turn the rust black. i even dug into it and it was black all the way thru it. And as Rick stated its phosphoric acid. You do have to paint over when using Phosphoric acid converts. I was going to use a rust encapsulator I got from Eastwood. But the more I thought about it I was not comfortable using it. And I have even bought some of it. I may use it on top of the rust convertor.

You can use regular phosphoric acid and get the same results.

Thanks for the reply Guys. I knew you all would have an answer or a Product that would do just as well. I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow. I will get a gallon of the Prep & Etch. Sounds like a reasonable price.
