some dimensions needed for taillight cable guard

Unread post by dr. trinkmann » June 6th, 2018, 4:43 am

Guys,
theese cable guards in the rear fenders are missing with my truck.
Not easy to get here and, if so, they are far to expensive.
I mention I can produce them on my own, but it would be a lot easier for me if someone could tell me some dimensions.
So, maybe someone has one on the spare and can do some measuring for me?
Would be very very nice...

Thanks a lot

I can probably get that done for you tomorrow unless someone else commits. Would that be ok?

Ok, here are your measurements and some additional photos to help you get a better sense of the piece -

A - 4 1/2"
B - 5 7/32"
C - 4 1/4"
D - 3 7/32"
E - 3 11/16"
F - measurements D + E + 2"
G - 5"
H - 3 1/4"

The broad mounting tab is 11/16" in height.
The small set of mounting tabs are 3/4" to 25/32" in height and 1" in width. As you can see from the profile shot, they are swept back very slightly which is why I've given you the two height measurements.

You ought to apply for a job with Guy! Very efficient if I do say. And you KNOW it takes a lot to get that kind of compliment out of me.

Thanks, but I think we all know that Guy would have also given him the precise angle of that bend. I have the little gizmo that would tell me what that angle was around here somewhere but I just can't find it and it's too darned hot to be rootin' around in the garage.

I suppose he can enlarge the picture and figure it out on his end. :D

My pleasure, buddy. Now that you know what is what, you should be able to enlarge a photo or two to figure out any unknowns but, if you get in a jam, let me know and I'll pull it off again and get more measurements for you.

Take note that the bends are not very tight, throughout the piece. I don't know much about this sort of thing but I found that rather interesting.

Cheers,
TJ
