Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
Was wondering if any members can weigh in on using custom manufactured (usually in your own garage...) braided flexible fuel line with the AN fittings, rather than the bent steel lines for fuel delivery.

Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
I'm curious. You don't say why you want to do it. Your thoughts?
Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
The only issue I would see is now yo have to support it in many places instead of it being self supporting for most of it's run. And aren't you the one that wants everything totally original?

Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
Rick, I am on the exploring journey with this truck, some of which you already know. I purchased a set of replacement fuel/vent lines and when installing them, found several to be just a tad short prior to the fuel tank fittings. I can't stretch the steel, and have already attempted to use a line bending tool and flare tool to make replacement lines of an adequate length.
While browsing youtube today, I searched for how-to info for making fuel lines with AN fittings. What I'm looking for is something that is safe, can do the job, and doesn't make me anymore P.O.d than remedying some of the other "challenges" provided through the courtesy of the previous owner(s).
While waiting for responses this afternoon, I cleaned the replacement differential that will go in place of the locker diff on the front end. Primer coat on, with semi-gloss black tomorrow. After the new one is in, I'll be draining the locker and packing it for shipping.

Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
And the reasoning for replacing the fuel/vent lines: rust and sludge in the tank which I had to replace. No reason to believe the lines would be any better, so replacement time.
This is an A2 with emissions, including air cleaner. Some of the stock lines had been bypassed/removed, and in wanting to make the truck complete, the thought was to replace the missing items with what was called for in the TMs. This has resulted in sourcing some fittings from strange places, trying my hand at bending steel fuel lines, comparing "what-is" against "what-should-be".

Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
Yeah, bending lines can be troublesome especially if you don't have the right tools but tubing benders are rather inexpensive but lines aren't cheap. (ask me how I know)
Well, it's your truck.. If it get's fuel to the right places, I say go for it. If you want to go back to hard lines that can always be done later.
Good to hear you're making progress.
In the event you open up that locking diff, I'd love to see pictures.
Cheers,
TJ

Re: Flexible Fuel Lines Suitable?
So you are talking about the lines down at the tank? I went through that on a job I did for someone and I fully understand what you are saying. There is no room to bend the lines there and compound bends in no room do not work. The AN fittings and braided line would work good there.
