I wanted to drive the M151 yesterday and it didn`t want to start.FOund out the the plugs had no spark. Measured everything and had power on the coil but no power coming out of the cap.
Had a NOS prestolite distributor and instaled that one. Still the same problem. No spark but power on the coil, the finger. What now?

I'd try ohmning the coil, the numbers are somewhere on this site

3-6 ohms on primary.
11-14 k on secondary between ht and one primary terminal.

Do you show power on the negative side of the coil with the points open? If not check the wire from the negative to the points for a short. Next one is tricky so pay attention, take a plug wire and hold one end in the center of the coil and the other end either close to a ground or better leave the plug on it and lay the plug in metal. While holding the wire in the center of the coil have someone crank it and see if you get spark at the plug. If you do then the problem is in the cap. Another test is to put a test light or analog meter on the negative side of the coil and while cranking look for flashing light or moving meter.

Re: Distribuor / Ignition fail
Ok after changing the coil, the condenser. Doing all the things you said, Rick it turns out that the ground was not strong enough.
The bolt on the the clutch housing was short. I put in a longer one and some additional teeth washers at voila! I had a spark.
But that took me 4 hours to figure that out. I tested the ground before and it seemed good. However, not good enough for a spark.

Re: Distribuor / Ignition fail
hi
to check a distributor
for the low voltage side
take the lid off
get a testing lite one side at the ground
contact on
left side coil must have power constant (coil +)
right side burns if points open
if you start it must go on and off
if not it burns constand points bad or opening not correct
if no lite at all change coil take wire of from the right side coil
now at the conection light must burn if not change coil
if yes low side exept condenser is ok
high voltage
take a sparkplug wire hold one side to ground
hold the other side 1/2 inch above the midle coil
start engine look for sparks
if yes coil and condenser ok
if not change coil
if no result change condenser
if spark high voltage side ok
to test rotor arm hold the sparkwire at midle coil
the other side at top rotor start engine
if spark rotor has a short replace rotor
sheck the advance springs turn the axle by hand a bit
the axle must go back at it self springs ok
put cap on the distributor
take all wire`s off
i put four bolds at the cable hole`s and start the engine to see if all four has a spark
if one has no spark check the in and outside cap for cracks or black stripes
at a electronic ignition it works the same with a test lite at the coil
if start not on and off electronic must be adjust or is kaputt
put the wires back in
hold the wire`s 1/2 inch from ground and start
if all sparks it is ok
if one not sparks reverse two wire`s and check again
if now the other not sparks wire bad
if the same cap gone
put the wirè at the plugs and start engine
if at three cylinders take one for one the cables off and see witch wil not react
take the plug tad not react out and chanche it with a other
now the other cylinder wil not run plug gone
this is how i check a ignition
