Reverse Gear Selection

Unread post by kmam » August 15th, 2018, 2:19 pm

I expect there should be some spring resistance to stop you accidentally selecting reverse gear instead of third gear but my gear box does not have that. Is this likely to be a simple fix? How foes it work - I can’t seem to find a description of that in the manuals.

Hi kmam,
I've had the same Problem, so I disassambled the gearshift housing...measured out the outside Diameter and length of the bigger spring (there are two in one if I remember right).
Then I searched the web for a (national) spring manufacturer and ordered a spring with nearby same outside Diameter and maybe slightly more length, but with the biggest wire diameter available.
Since then everything with shifting is fine!! Never ever hit reverse instead 3rd again.

See TM 9-2320-218-34-1 Page 7-76 (403) for maintenance
See Page 7-83 (410) Pos. 5: This is the spring to exchange

Sorry, bad english...

Rick, if you ask me, I can give you a link to the spring I ordered.
But, as I am german this is a german Company off course...
At least you can see the technical datasheet and then search your local suppliers for matching spring.

True, But we have Horst, who is also German but spends a lot of time over here in the states. He may be able to cross that over to something we can source here. Richard is also another of your fellow countryman, I have not heard from him in a while.

Bought the whole kit on ebay to do the complete shifter.
Springs , ball bearings separate rod and cast iron part.
More expensive than a spring but a complete rebuild.
