instrument panel

Unread post by toadette » September 19th, 2018, 3:10 am

When I switch on the ignition the gages on my A2 all respond slowly unlike other Mutts I have seen where they respond quickly with a flickering motion. The voltage gage remains in the yellow zone regardless of the state of battery charge although it does move into the green zone once the engine is running. My batteries are good and starting is no problem. Is there something in the electrical instrument circuit that can cause this behaviour?

On the A2 there should be a ground wire as George describes but it gets left off a lot due to people being used to the A1 which only grounded through the screws. If you do not see a disconnected wire to ground just add one in.

A voltage reading in the yellow zone with the engine stopped (voltage should be 24-26V, depending on your batteries condition)
and a reading in the green zone with the engine running (Alternator output voltage should be 27-28V) is absolutely ok.
With mine the voltage readings are quite the same.

Really need to check the batteries with a real volt meter since the dash gauges are far from accurate for the most part. They are more indicator than gauge.
