Rear lights. Wire color coded

Postby acudanut » October 31st, 2018, 5:17 pm

Anyone taken the tape off the wires that go to the rear brake lights. There is a green, white and black wire. *** No numbers on the wires.*** Just need to know where each color goes.
The female ends have numbers, just not the male ends. Thanks

To the best of my recollection there is no tape normally fitted to the wires and they are all coloured black with a number attached. Sounds like someone has repaired the light at some stage, replacing the original wires with their own colour code.

No colored wires in factory harness. You will need to check the front end and see what wire attaches to each of those at that end. Or put in a new rear harness. Or just use a test light or meter on each wire and turn the light on and check each in turn till you find the right one.

Someone probably rewired the lights .
The wires should all be black rubber wire.
As Rick said get a test light and start ringing out things.
Just note what light goes on with each wire.
Then get the wiring diagram and connect them accordinally.
Hope that makes sense.

Get a circuit tester and hook it up to each wire. Remember, when selecting a circuit tester, you're dealing with 24v. Harbor freight has an inexpensive set of three - one for up to 15v, one for 16-24v and a third tester with its own power source. They're not of high quality but you cannot beat the price. With that kit, you should have your curious wiring figured out in minutes.

By any chance is this a newer LED military light? I have seen a few that were color coded as well as having sticker like numbers on them. I can't find mine right now to compare with.
Still crazy after all these years.
