Emissions Tank

Unread post by Hambone » December 30th, 2018, 12:41 pm

For those of us stuck with swapping out to an emissions tank, thought I would share how I modified mine, wanted to get rid of the ugly vent covers. Cut and drilled some blinds out of sheet metal, thought about welding them on, but this way, I can still access the inside for cleaning if needed in the future. I also made the pick up tube for the inside, used a Jeep CJ filter for the in tank filter, emission pick up tube cost $30, built this one for $5, I know its not original.

Thanks for the info. I have an A2 but wish to do as you have done. Where does your second fuel line go?

It's the return vapor line from the carb.

Is there a vent line back to the air cleaner? That would make this a viable replacement for the impossible to find early A2/A1 tanks

I don't have one but it could be hooked up to the vent in the dished out part that I have plugged off with 1/8" pipe plug.

Edit to add: I figured this out. Lots of learning occurring with my "new" mutt. Thanks to the OP for this idea on the tank.

Is it correct that it’s ok to cap the breather to the right of where the emissions manifold would be? As long as I have the vented fuel cap.

While investigating my fuel pump issue in another post, I discovered the inside of the fuel tank is not in great condition. When taking all the emissions parts off, it looks like the line into the breather was soldered at some point so I’m trying not to replace things that don’t need to be.
