Front turn signal "with white glass"

Unread post by Sgt. Schultz » January 8th, 2019, 11:07 am

Hi and happy New Year too all

Is there someone who can tell me why some front turn signals (alu house) have a white glass at the NATO light? I have a set of new front turn signals where one glass is with white glass and another without. Both have LED bulbs?

Best Regards

Hi Morten,

What do you define as "Nato light"? The blackout light below the turn signal?

Concerning posting pictures, upload to any picture sharing platform (don't use photobucket), such as postimage.org. Use the img setting and insert the link of your hosted picture between so it looks like: . As easy as that.

Hi Hoorst, thanks

Yes it was a little unclear. It's the blackout light I'm talking about

You can't link to anything stored on your computer. You have to upload the picture to something on the web.

Morten....

the picture you have is showing a late-production composite front light. It will probably have an L.E.D bulb in the lower (white) section of the unit.....if so, it should work the same way as the "clear glass" type.
Have you tested the light to check how it operates? Have you opened it up to see what bulb is used? Let us know what you find.

I notice that the screws which hold the cover in place are different from each other. This light unit could have been altered by a previous owner to provide a "side-light" in place of a blackout light. On closer inspection, it does seem to have been modified.

Kind regards....

Another possibility is that it got water in it and the white on the glass is from corrosion of the reflector inside. You need to open it up and see just what you have.

Ken,

The picture shows a more recent production metal casing light. Mine are aluminum. The two Phillips head screws on the main lens are the standard screws for this model taillight. And if it is NOS, all the screws are unpainted.
Some were made to hold regular bulbs, later ones use the LED light, which still attaches to the standard light bulb socket.
Hope this helps.

Hi
Thanks for your suggestions...

Ken, "side-light" is a good proposal and explanation.

There are LED bulps in a traditional base inside. Is is NOS (Year?) and all the screws are original and unpainted.

I have one house with ordinary blackout glass and one with white glass. In the beginning I thought it was from to different manafacktures but they are identical except from the glasses.

I have not yet tested them and can't say it can function as "side-light". But hopefully, during the spring I will awake this A2 alive again and maybe it can function as "side-light". Status: See pic below.

Regards
Morten

Could it have anything to do with which side to pass in the night?
