Leaking radiator cap

Unread post by MUTT Vet » December 15th, 2008, 2:37 pm

I recently noticed i was loosing coolant rather rapidly.

I would check the level every other day or so an the fluid level would be so low i couldn't see any water.

So I did the exact opposite of keeping it simple and looked for leaks in all the hoses and checked the radiator over for cracks and I also used some radiator stop leak, which takes two days to finish.

I still couldn't find the leak.

I checked yesterday again as soon as i got home and i noticed that it was leaking out from underneath the radiator cap. That should have been the first thing i checked.

The bad part of the cap is that metal ring thats on the back side of the spring away from the rubber seal.

Is there a way to fix a leaking radiator cap or will i have to buy a new one? If so, is there a civilian version i can pick up from autozone?

Hey MUTTvet,

New ones are blah blah at most MV dealers for $10. When I've had radiator work done they recommend that weak radiators needs a lower pressure cap than originally issued. Most any will basicly work.
