Fuel inlet fitting for the carburetor

Unread post by Rossco » April 13th, 2019, 4:25 pm

Hi all
I have noticed in a number of threads a conversation of over using the correct parallel threaded steel/brass union on the carburetor body rather than simply screw in the tapered thread on the fuel filter? I have a nos carburetor so dont want to stuff it up using the wrong parts!!
Where do I buy the correct part to make this happen or does someone in this group have one I can purchase?
I have the new sealing nut for the carb side

They are tough to find, the A1 and A2 use different fittings so be sure you are looking for the right one. The A1 or A2 fitting I believe can be had in civilian life but not sure what it is called. The A1 fitting is a 90 degree fitting and the A2 is a 30 degree fitting. Your best bet is to do just what you are doing, ask around and go to the shows and swap meets. Look for old carbs that may still have the fittings on them. ( I am always interested in buying cores).

Thanks Rick
I am after the fitting for an A2,
I have found fittings here in New Zealand which could work but these don't have the length of thread to screw into the carb body and have enough space for the sealing nut!
If anyone has a spare one of these available delivery will be to a California address as I will be in the US later in May to drive route 66

I guess you have checked Enzed who may be able to help or put you onto the right people? Not sure if Pirtek are in NZ but they were tremendously helpful on a similar problem recently.

I did a search for the correct A2 fitting and only found one source that had NOS fittings they source to the Gov. I got a quote of $45 USD ea. and I believe there was a minimum quantity to order, many more that 1 piece. That was about a year ago and I don't remember the company. I relayed that info to Vin Zike but I don't think he is back from vacation and probably doesn't remember either. Hopefully you can find one even used in descent shape. Sorry I couldn't be of any help other than there was a source for NOS and I used the NSN/part no. to track it down. The A1 fitting is a 90 deg. and also has (NPS) National Pipe Straight 1/8" x 27 tpi. and the threads are longer than the fittings you can find which are National Pipe Tapered (NPT) which is also 1/8" x 27 tpi. I have purchased the "A1" fittings that are being sold and they are wrong. A1 also has a reverse flair on the internal bore ie; same as a standard flared fuel fitting. 5/16". I have pictures of original and what is being pawned off as correct replacements. I don't know how to post them here.

Hi Cav Trooper
Thanks for the additional info on these elusive MUTT fuel fittings?
I spoke with one of the firms that makes up replacement hydraulic hose lines here in NZ, who suggested they could make something up but at a price ! So will look at some other options!
I can see why folk just hook the fuel line up with what ever fittings are available regardless of them being tapered or parallel threaded!

Rick

I1 have a small engineers lathe but making a fitting like this is probably beyond my capabilities! I am okay with real simple stuff!!!
