Plastic window replacement?

Unread post by cstaup » December 22nd, 2008, 9:41 pm

Has anybody done this. I have a couple side curtains that have good "canvas" but the windows are like peanut brittle. Any ideas?

I have done this before but not with M151 tops. However with boating tops it is really common. If you live near water or a lake I am sure there's a shop that could get it done in a jiffy.

There is a shop up in Dallas that does custum work for jeeps and they do custum fabricated tops and curtains.

They told me that they could make a custum top with the side curtains built in and the doors or modify the existing curtains and doors with better plastic and add zippers to the windows and doors.

Haven't done it yet because she quoted me $400 - $800.

I'm still doing a few minor repairs and modifications on the important stuff. After that then I will worry about the body and the sides and top.

Any good vehicle upholstry shop could fix or modify the standard MUTT curtains and top.

I remenber that thread. I believe you Browns fans were talking about it. I like MutVets zipper idea but for 400 clams, I'lldo it myself. (Boy, won't my wife love what I did to her sewing machine).

My business is leather repair and custom work. Trust me when I tell you you aint sewing that on a home machine. If you do want to sew it in and don't mind taking your time get a stiching awl. It's basically a ice pick (awl) with a bobin of thread and you become the sewing machine. Will punch through the material easily and you'll be able to sew it right up.

Don't forget to waterproof the new seams with some kind of sealant.
