SEABEE, Keep in mind, Top lives in France.

Ken and Horst, I know the rops will raise the COG but I don't think it is anywhere near as much as some would think. Consider that the heavy mounts are at or below the original cog and the amount of cage above the body line is not all that much weight.

I may say I was anxious to jump out of them but there were many times I was anxious to get back in too!

Ken,

Please let me know what you have. I actually only need the longitudinal position of the C.G, the lateral and vertical is not important for what I need. If you have one for a plain 151A2 I can calculate the impact of the ROPS. I would guess the C.G. is ahead of the driver seat, but I am not sure.

Yes, this thread carried them somewhere else. I like of course helo stories being a helo pilot, but still need this info though.

Rick, did I ever mention that besides the private room with all the goodies {and I am not talking about the hooch maid}, I had a reserved parking space for my own M151 {complete with fake trip tickets but no shovel or axe- those were stolen before I got the thing}. Well, ....... not really reserved parking but there were 10 places and only four of us ever had jeeps.
BTW Ken, it was rick who stole this thread..... :-)

Chopper pilot: "Hey Swabbie, do you have change for a dollar?"
Seabee: "Sure, buddy."
Chopper pilot: "That's no way to address an officer!
Now let's try it again!"
Chopper pilot: "Seabee. Do you have change for a dollar?"
Seabee: "No, SIR!"

Horst, This may sound crazy but here is something to try in your spare time. Lay two long planks across a piece of 6" drain pipe. Drive the mutt up the planks until it starts to flop over on the pipe. There is your center of gravity. We used to do that in skills competitions to see if you could control the vehicle well enough to balance it in the middle.

Lets see, the shovel and axe were stolen before you got it. And where did you get it?

And yes it probably was me that stole the thread, I have a reputation to maintain!

Me thinks Seabee is a little light in the sense of humor department.

It is all in fun Tom, Top and I have been going round and round for about a year now. :D Wait until spring and watch the banter!

Great, but I certainly didn't want to start an international incident . ( at least not again ) , and you have to remember, I'm an educated Seabee, and always check things around the site, before I jump in head first with foot in mouth. Tom

My dad was a torpedo man in the Navy during WW II. He told the story about his being stationed on a small island in the pacific and the Seabees coming in, building a working airstrip in 24 hours, using PSP (perforated steel plating) and leaving a sign that said, "Kilroy Was Here". He had a great respect and admiration for them.

Hi Ralph, Thank you for your remarks, they were appreciated. My father in law was one of the orginal Seabees at the start of the war in the Pacific. If you ever saw the Fighting Seabees with John Wayne, Art was one of the construction crew members on that island. However, and the movie didn't continue with what happen afterwards. When Japan was bombing Pearl Harbor, they were also trying to take Wake. It took two weeks to capture the island. Then they took half of those on the island to China, then Japan in POW camps. They killed the remaining ones left on Wake. Art spent 4 years as a POW. When I met my future wife, and this was during the time I was in the service, I was humbled to know such a person and what he and others went thru during this period. I am lucky and proud to be a Seabee with this rich history. Thanks for letting me share this. Tom .
