Wheel Bearings and Seals

Unread post by Mutt Hunter » July 29th, 2020, 9:04 pm

Gents,

Are there civilian equivalents from NAPA or some other auto parts place that serve as sources of supply for wheel bearings and seals, or do we have to use the usual military parts houses?

The cups and cones are the same for M151 series and the M416 trailer.
Timkin LM 501310-2 Cup
Timkin LM 501349-2 Cone
NAPA has same part number.
As for the wheel seal kits. I purchased from member of this forum. 👍🇺🇸🦅

You can get the bearings for NAPA but you will find that they are more expensive than buying surplus and they are also Chinese. The seals you can get some that work but you cannot get the original military double lip seals from NAPA.

Best bet is grab GI seals and bearings from your favorite vendor or Peebay. It's not a hard job but it's a messy job.

I just did my A2. Replaced some bearings, full seal kit. I used PVC pipe (2 different diameters) with a wood block and a hammer for installing the wear collars. Worked extremely well!

The man runs a huge metal and fabrication shop with all the fancy tools and he uses PVC pipe as an installation tool! My kind of mechanic!!!

Every now and then a good hammer solves a problem!
