I'm not nearly as experienced as the guys that have already given you advice.

But i can tell you that if the engine and radiator are in good running order you shouldn't have any issues with overheating.

I lived in Las Vegas for several years and the temp regularly get over 115 in the summer and I never had a problem with my A2 over heating and I was out in the desert all the time.

I would start by removing the thermostat and putting the thermostat housing back together and fill with water. With the radiator cap off and the engine running, is there a good strong flow of coolant from the top radiator hose :?: If no strong flow of coolant, start with checking the condition of the waterpump.

Why would you put a perfectly good Mutt on the beach in the first place? They are rust buckets by design and you are hastening its demise. Won't even use mine in the winter for fear of salt on the roads.

Amen to that. I don't get mine out until after the first good hard rain of spring. Salt is just as much an enemy of the M151 as the DRMO :!:

You can always plug the frame channels and rhino line the bottom.

I had mine dipped and I haven't seen a spot of rust since, on the bottom anyway.

This is off topic but undercoating the bottom does a good job camoflaging the rust. The channel insides are typically all untreated metal. Only later units were treated with rust proofing through the drain holes.
I dont think that it would be a wise idea to close the weep hole. There too many ways for water to migrate in and start to rust.

I stand by my original statement "Keep your MUTT away from water especially salt water".

To add to what Fil said, anything that can hold water out can also hold it in.

If the thermostat were in backwards it would overheat in minutes.

I know this is off topic for the thread ...I had an A-2 gov. rust treated, the material was a Z-bart material and Z-bart will tell you it needs to be retreated often.....still some rust spots....nothing is forever......HTN.......and one more time the block is stopped up.
