Hi guys
Today I found into a box a new electronic Swiss module (at least I think it is..) and i was wondering if it is possible to install it on my distributor (it is autolite distributor with points).
Is it possible and do you raccomend this upgrade?

Honestly, with the amount of miles you will most likely put on your 151, stay with the points. The points style ignition while not go bad over time but only with usage.

Points are a good system, the only thing with points is dwell changes as they wear which affects timing. But if you stay on top of the wear they are just fine and as Horst said, if you only drive a few hundred miles a year they will never wear out. To answer your question, yes, you can swap the Swiss controls setup in with no other modifications. Just remember to never leave the ignition switch on with it not running! The you chance burning up a coil AND the ignition module. The advantages of the electronic is that there is never any dwell or timing changes. Once it is put in and the initial timing is set it is done. Neither should ever change.

Re: Upgrade from autolite points dustributor to elect Swiss?
I have points in my A2 and put around 3,000 miles per year on average. Been doing this for 3 years and haven't had any issues. I also have 3 of the Swiss control units but haven't changed the points out for the simple reason of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

hi
i use points as well and i drive a lot
the advance is
you can repair it on the road
if i go far away i have a spare points distributer with me
you can set the timing with a testing light on the road

I also know people that have installed the Swiss controls and absolutely love them and highly recommend changing over. I don't think there is a wrong answer here, it's a personal choice.
