Hey Rick thanks. At least I can see some light at the end. So, is it possible to have an open (normal) on a harness? If wires split to two items is than considered an open? You also talked about the generator, battery hook up for a test. Would a signal gen do the same thing?

Floyd, an open is not normal, it is a broken wire. PM me a phone number and I will give you a call. It is a lot easier to explain in person.

Electrical failure

Unread post by Fil Bonica » December 10th, 2007, 10:54 am

Some time ago I had the problem of batteries going dead. I checked the battery ground connection and it sparked as yours did. Put an ammeter in series and measured substantial current going through. I started turning switches on and off.

Lo and behold the main light switch was the culprit. The current load went away when the switch was in the OFF position.

Putting a battery disconnect switch in place is a good idea but finding the underlying problem is better.

Happy Hunting

Hey Fil, I agree with that one. That's why I want to get this thing right the first time. Once the whole thing is together it compounds trying to find what's going on. At least for me.
