Hi All, here is a little update on my Motor, I did a "little" work today and pulled the power pack back out of the mutt so I could pull the oil pan and oil pump and look for any problems. I'll open the motor up and report what I find.

Dan,

I REALLY appreciate this step by step tutorial. I plan to build a takeout engine to have ready to go should I need it, and plus it will be fun. I have never rebuilt an engine myself (though I have done pretty much everything but), and I can sure use this info. I know it is a lot of work to do such a comprehensive post with photos and descriptions. Your work is very much appreciated!

:D Thanks Jeff !
Well, my back was feeling good so I went on with the work, I pulled the oil pan, dropped the oil pump and took it apart.

This is the high pressure bypass that I didn't pull and clean the first time around! :x

The plunger would "NOT" come out, I couldn't even turn it with pliers, I had to soak it and then drive it out with a small punch and, a Seabee tool!

That's all for now, need to get some rum to ease my back pain! :D

Well, I couldn't stop there, I cleaned up the plunger and the bore in the gear cover, now the plunger works as it should.

Dan, You are as bad as me, once yo get started you can't stop. Screw the pain, Git er done!
That motor is in a rather precarious position! If that radiator mount slides you are in deep doo-doo! Your back will really hurt then.

 Ya, I thought about that, I shook it real good a few times and even moved the trailer around a time or two before I started on pulling the pan, It's more stable then it looks. Having the motor on the trailer was a big help, I was able to sit on a milk crate to do most of the work. :)

Dan,

I like the trailer idea. Is that made from a 416 or something different?

That is my 416, I am putting a M762 flat bed floor and fenders on it, I'll trim the old floor out of the tub and adapt it to sit on the flat bed floor, it will then be a "transformer" 8) I plain to build a platform to mount a power pack to for service and repair work, I'll use quick release pins on the maintenance platform for ease of install and removal. I'll set up one of my extra motors on it to test run rebuilt "stuff", carburetors, starters, distributors, water pumps, generators, OH! and oil pumps!  I can also check the condition of take out parts just laying around on the shelf.

That's pretty damned clever, Dan. I can't wait to see it finished.

I was thinking about finding an old m101 that's beyond restoring and turning it into a stand as you described to include running rebuilt engines as well. I was thinking about size that's why I want to get a 3/4 ton trailer. Can't wait to see your setup.

I like your Chevy. I am a Mopar guy, but love all American (muscle cars) made in the late 60's to early 70's.
