you got the accelerator pump spring on the right side of the pump?? I got mine backwards the first time. I know Iknow dumb mistake. But it wouldn't run that away. There are not that many parts in the carb, so double check that you didn't get your float in wrong, needle valve didn't get crooked and stick, and you got all the new gaskets back in the right place.

Just my thoughts.

This is what i got sofar. It looks like I am not getting enough fuel to the bowl. I took the carb apart and the needle is not stuck, everything is clear from the tank with good flow (I think). I am not getting any fuel to the accelerator at all. I checked and the little ball was stuck so I got that freed up but I still am not getting any fuel down there.

With the spring location being said????? did I screw that up???? where is it supposed to go??? I would think that I have it right. Spring againsed the housing and the diaphram gasket that has the cup facing the spring and the small plate againsed the floating seat.

I will take pics if that will help you all.

Ok, I just checked the manual online on the Yahoo mutt page and I do have the accelerator pump the right way. I am guessing that something is not right with my float and needle..............There is no reason why that carb should not fill with fuel.

Jim, I am not much of a typist, I know Bob Amon did a big writeup on the repairs I did on his which is on the 503 WIKI I believe. Once we are fully operational here I believe Horst wants to bring that info over here. I wanted to talk to Jeff first before putting up alot of confusing information that may lead the wrong way depending on circumstances.

This is a link to an article that Bob Amon wrote up on the repairs to his carb. If it is not mentioned in there you also have to make sure the idle mixture tube is clear. That is the tube that will fall out when you invert the bowl. Spray with carb cleaner, let sit for a minute respray and blow out with compressed air. This tube is very susceptable to varnish buildup whenthe vehicles are not run very often.

Back online to the carb manual, just a quick comment..................."I am going to throw the carb out my garage window". I knew I should have bought a deuce!

This is the point at which you will start making mistakes, walk away, find something else to do and come back tomorrow. When we talked on the phone you had it narrowed down to one passegway, I take it you did not find a blockage? I have one in pieces in the garage, I will look at it tomorrow and try to visualize what the problem is. Believe me, it will turn out to be something simple.

reading between the lines it sounds like rickf told you to check what I am about to.... I am by no means an expert but I have had my carb off and cleaned numerouse times. Your explanation sounds just like a problem I had one summer after I let my 67 151 set up all winter without putting any gas treatment in to prevent buildup. Even though iIspray two cans of carb cleaner through every hole II could find, I too found that I was not getting gas to the bowl or the acceleration pump at the bottom. I ultimately poor boyed it and took a paper clip and running it through every jet (hole) I could see I finally found blockage. Like I said this did not show up just spraying with carb cleaner. Had I not cleared my problem my local mech friend was ready with a can of carburator gunk for a quick dip. I beleive that would have worked you just had to make sure all brass fittings were removed....anyway hope this helps

Well I have blown out every orfice in that SOB. I am getting some fuel to the bowl now but I dont think that its enough, reguardless Its not getting into the intake. I will sleep on it tonight and try again tomorrow while the batteries are charging! Yea, I may just go ahead and dunk it. I do plan on going to work tomorrow and running through the small holes with some safety wire and see what I can find. I will say this, I am getting pretty good time on carb changes.........................here I come NASCAR.

Here is a picture that Muttguru posted about the passageway that Rick is talking about cleaning out. You have to understand how a carb works to understand that you have to spray cleaner and air through it the opposite way you would think. If not, the cleaner or compressed air will only lodge dirt or gunk farther up the passageway. Scroll down from Ken's pic and there is another explanation from Bob Amon about what is going on. Good Luck and may the force be with you.
