Ok, I could not sleep so I went out and took it back off yet again. Tomorrow I will go to my work and try to clean it out again. I really wish I knew of a area to concentrate my cleaning. Its not running at all!! Anyone got a line on rebuilt or NOS carbs????

Ok Ken and I have been chatting and I also told him that I had changed the exhaust manifold and added the exhaust gasket kit. Do you all think that this might be causing my problems too?? Has anyone added the gaskets and had problems??? Should I take them back out???

I am probably too late with this but safety wire is a bad idea!!!! The carb body is aluminum and the wire is steel. It will gouge the passageways and open up measured orifices.

Hang in there. I have a similar problem right now with a carb. Was running perfectly. I changed the venturi tube in it and now it would not even start. I haven't found the problem yet, put a different carburetor on for the time being.

You added an exhaust manifold gasket kit? I would guess you now have amassive vacuum leak at the intake manifold. I have found that when you put one of those kits on an A1 and even some A2's that the exhaust gaskets hold the intake away from the head so it leaks all along the bottom of the intake. I would pull it back off and lose the exhaust gaskets, put a real small amout of hi-temp silicone around the exhaust port and bolt it bck together. That is probably why you are not getting gas into the engine from the carb, No vacuum. I wish you had mentioned that when I called. Because you will be reusing the intake gasket it would not hurt to put a thin layer of silicon on both sides of that also.

Yeah, I did not think that would be an issue..................tho I have decided to loose the gaskets and install my new manifold.................i do have new intake gaskets but I never did install any sealer to the gaskets................so I am going to redue my manifold installation before I do anymore to the carb and see if i can atleast get it to sputter or something.......................

If you are using new intake gaskets you will not need sealer on them, just put a little around each exhaust port.

Thats the stuff :D You do not need much around the exhaust, just a thin layer on the head surface around each port. Same for the intake, on a used gasket I put a thin layer on both sides of the gasket. Call it insurance against another leak.

Well I got it all back together..............Had the carb apart yet again and I dipped it in carb cleaner, cleaned it all out and installed it again. After letting the pump run a couple of times, it will run for a sec then quit. I am still not getting fuel down at the accelerator diaphram so it leads me that I am still not getting enough fuel in the bowl.

You are going to have to check your fuel pressure with a guage. With all that you have done there should be no restriction to the gas going in. It will not go to the accelerator pump right away because you need engine vacuum to work the pump and pull the gas past the checkball in the bowl. I would pull the drain plug on the bowl and turn on the pump and see what comes out of the drain.

OK, I pulled the plug on the bowl and turned the starter. I too a bit for the fuel pump to come on and NOTHING came out of the fuel bowl. I then had a idea and a theory to yesterdays troubleshooting. So I cracked the carb filter housing until fuel sprayed everywhere THEN I got fuel out of the bowl drain. Yesterday, the engine would run for a sec when I did this. Think its a weak pump??? When I cracked it, the speed of the pump would pick up. I think that would be normal.

YOUR FUEL PUMP IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. YOUR M151A1 SHOULD NOT BE HAVING PUMP PROBLEMS, SOUNDS LIKE THE CARB IS GUM-ED UP. EMAIL ME YOUR ADDRESS TO : OHIOMUTT@HOTMAIL.COM
I WILL SEND YOU A CARB THAT WORKS. NOTHING LIKE A SAD M151 :(

DO ME A FAVOR...
1) LAY YOUR HAND OVER THE CARB OPENING AND HAVE SOMEONE CRANK THE MOTOR. WHAT DO YOU FEEL? CARB SHOULD BE SUCKING THE PALM OF YOUR HAND. :D
