Underbody Repair Kits
Hey guys,
I'm considering buying two A-1's that appear to have subframe issues. Are the under body kits used to replace the sub frames? I haven't really looked into these things until now and have zero experience in doing this type of repair. I'll also be replacing the floor pans as well.
Thanks!
Tim

Re: Underbody Repair Kits
The body frame kits will reinforce the original frame except the two main frame rails down the center of the vehicle. The kits were designed to repair the out riggers so to speak. Are they even available any more? The kits were also designed to fit over the exsisting frame member and then weld into place.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....
Re: Underbody Repair Kits
I think the kits are still available. When I got my Mutt I did not know about the kits. I stood it on end with a hoist and welded quarter by two flat bar stock to all the affected areas after those areas with a rust converter to slow down the rot. That was six years ago and still no problems,

Re: Underbody Repair Kits
I just got the body back from the blaster. I raelly don't have that much work to do, really, mostly cosmetic.
I want to gusset some welds with a new fishplate or two and replace some floor sections and lower sides.
Anybody have any suggestions for a "frugal" restoration.
Look up frugal before you start to flame me.

Re: Underbody Repair Kits
the small underbody kit was mostly gussets and is pretty cheap. Mack's militaria is a good source for replacement panels. I think its often cheaper just to replace a panel than get involved with a lot of body work, depending of course on how bad the panel is to begin with....

Re: Underbody Repair Kits
Hi
Miltrans in Denmark has all the panelparts and underbody parts for M151A1 and most parts for A2 also.
Here is a photo of some underbodyparts for A1 that I got for one of mine.
