Vintage Air - AC for M151

Unread post by mrdibbles » May 23rd, 2008, 4:55 pm

Hey Guys-
I am chatting with Rodney at Vintage Air about the process for retro-fitting a Vintage Air system into my A2. I was figuring that I could paint it OD, or even have it powder coated, and fit it up under the passenger/dash area. Do any of you have aftermarket air conditioners installed on your Mutts? I am thinking that I need a way to beat this TX heat.
Regards,
Matt-

You ARE kidding, Right?! If noy then keep in mind that it takes roughly 15 horsepower to run the A/C compressor. Subtract that from your total and you end up with NOT MUCH!

AC....WHAT???? Undo the top from the back footman loops fold it around the back bow and back up to the center bow tie off with straps around bow and drive 50MPH with no doors or side curtains....You'll be plenty cool.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

Ken's site has (or had) a picture of someone in Thailand that had fitted an air conditioner to a M151. It also had the hardtop.

Alright... you caught me  The heat index was 104 yesterday and with Memorial Weekend traffic I found myself sitting in some real hot sun. The M60 casts almost no shade 8) I had a weak moment sitting there in the heat and started thinking of how much I liked the factory AC in my '66 Mustang (I sold this car in '97). It had a V8 though... I bet this Mutt motor would struggle under the burden of a compressor. Mostly guys I was joking... I expected to get torched by you guys a little more than I did though

OH we are not done yet! I'll bet the A/C works good on the Healey.  So you wanted an M60 huh? I'll bet you forgot you couldn't have the top up as a sunshade with it. Lets see, if you still had your trailer you could have a generator and a mobile A/C unit ducted into the 151 from the trailer.

Hey MrD,

If we're underpowered for the AC, think dry ice on the top bows and gravity feed. Possibly consider a thermal imaging system to cut through the haze, but what the hay, it requires little HP from our 4 cyl motors, and adds that added comfort for the Texas heat, and that haze may actually assist in a partial stealth mode. It would also assist in your own personal thermal signature from the air. If you like to grow plants in the back seat, the CO2 would be of great help. The possibilities are nearly endless. Please post pictures! :D
