Seabee insignia&numbers

Unread post by Lindsay36551 » April 27th, 2013, 9:18 pm

Calling all seabees!!!!
I am restoring a 76 M151a2 and need to know the correct color used for ID numbers on truck.
I have conflicting info ,some are saying that they where # erd in Marigold yellow and others are saying flat black.
This is a marine corps 151 with fording kit. Also would it say US NAVY or USN?
Any help or photos would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Lindsay, for your era of A2, flat black.
Just a warning....that S/N on the hood of the vehicle should read "94"..... the nine has faded or worn off.

Ken is correct about the missing number. Here is the additional data plate for this mutt.

Hi Lindsay, I've seen it both ways ( no comment from the peanut gallery ) , the letters, numbers and Seabee logo a marigold yellow type similar if not the same as the colors for the Marines, and grey . I think that if it were on a Navy base it was grey, but on a Seabee base it was the marigold yellow. I remember some of this on our front end loaders. I think the logon on Jay's mutt was faded somewhat. Nevertheless, we always made sure to remove any Army or Marine numbers too as not to confuse them...."we found it and now its ours !" Seabee 8)

I see "25", but I think there is either some waviness in the metal or something on the paint that makes it look like it could almost be "45".

You are right Raymond, now that I see it on a different monitor I can clearly see the 25. I guess they were drinking the 1.5 garbage.

Looks to me like the stencil was moved forward and the old T is showing with the 2, but then my "old" eyes are not what they used to be!

Just another example of how Seabees always do slipshod, substandard work.

That data plate says Navy, it is riveted and looks like it has never been off of there. That was never an Army vehicle. Shoddy swabbie Seabees swilling substandard slop.

It's actually 45. Here is another pic of the same vehicle.
