Another new M151 owner

Unread post by Jake4wheel » May 28th, 2008, 3:24 pm

Hello everyone, my name is Jake and I have recently been given a M151 from my Uncle who used to use it to go to the deer camp & back. He's getting too old (according to him) to do it any more. His son didn't want it (for some unknown reason) so I took it. It's in realy good shape. He states it's a 1960 M151. I haven't got all of the paperwork in yet. I also have a trailer load of new & used parts, including 2 motors, 3 transmission, 5 diff. 2 windshields (frame & unbroken glass) and tons more items. The only thing I don't have is a good wire harness and a few missing seat covers. I will be taking it all down for a real good restoration. I will be picking at y'alls brains in the future so I'll say thanks early for all of the future help. Jake, (USMC retired)

I live in Jennings, La. My brother-in-Law has 2 fully restored M38A1's. I have to make this one look a little better. I ran a little rough at first, but then took one of the extra carb.'s and cleaned it up & swapped it out. It ran just fine after that. Y'all know any one with a front & rear wire harness for sell? Everything else is in pretty good shape. Some rust, but not too bad. My Uncle had it for about the last 25 years. We had a M38A1 & an a M151 many years ago on the farm. I always loved the old "Jeeps"

You are not going to find a 151 or A1 harness. You will find A2 harness's but they will not work with your charging system or fuel pump and safety system. You can get one new from Vintage wiring of Maine but hold onto your shorts for the price! I will tell you it is WELL worth it if you are going to do a full resto. Joe Hall is a real nice guy to deal with.

Jake,
very nice.... it's an early (1960-62) Ford M151 (not A1). It looks to be in good shape, too.... I think that hardtop has helped keep the elements from the bodytub.

Does it still have its dash dataplate?
Kind regards....
Ken

Always wanted - Details and pictures of M416 Trailer data plates & M151 data plates & body-tags for my research. Thanks!

Nice ride!

Check with OhioMutt to see if he may have those harnesses for ya.

Saturn Surplus has some rear harnesses, but they don't list a price. (scroll to the bottom)

http://www.saturnsurplus.com/m151/m151.htm

TNJ Murray has some of both front and rear, though they are listed for an A2 it states they can be used for M151 & A1's as well. (scroll to the bottom)

This is great, only a few hours and already plenty of help. Can I still use a wire harness from an A1 or A2 if I change a few things? I would like to add some blackout light anyway. Here's a couple more pic's. I hope they're smaller!!ImageImage

Here is a thread explaining what needs to be done to convert an A2 harness to an A1 vehicle http://g838.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=486

I'm sure you can get the gist of what has to be done and you can decide if it's worth your time. ;)

Welcome to the list...Nice Mutt!

Yep its a straight 151 not A1 or A2. You mentioned black out lights. On the original M151s those two turnsignals in your grill were the black out marker lights, and a black out drive light went on the drivers side fender. In the rear your drivers side brake light was the stop/tail light and black out marker and on the passinger side you had the black out stop and black out marker. Yep only one stop/tail light!

Get the manuals downloaded and read up on them. Oh BTW your windshield is from an A2...maybe one of your spare ones is the correct one for yours.

Good luck with the restoration...ask all the questions you want if we don't know we'll make it up...lol...just kidding...but seriously ask any questions this group will be glad to help.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....
