.030 ring kit NSN

Unread post by cstaup » June 11th, 2008, 9:09 pm

As some of you may, or may not know, I'mm rebuilding the motor in my MUTT. I have .030 oversize pistons but no rings.

According to my 34P (1988) the part number for the ring set, piston.030 oversize is 5702224 the NSN cross refrences to 2805-00-036-0286.

Is that the correct NSN? I ask because a parts supplier tells me that that is the .010 oversize set, he has the 1978 -34P. Would any of you confirm or deny any of the above. Thanks

Chris

Don't flame me for not buying a take out motor, as I am too anal to leave it alone and not tear into that one.

Don't know who your parts supplier is but if he's using a -34P dated 78 and your using the same book dated 88 than you are correct. Might want to find a new supplier or a civilian cross reference.

I don't have access to my books right now but there should be no problem finding a set of rings in the aftermarket. The rings don't know what they are going in! All you need is the diameter and the thickness of the ring and the any special ring properties (none in your case). Any machine shop should be able to measure the pistons and get you a set.

the 34P dated 15-Nov-1988 (Kits page 5) shows :-

Ring Set - .030 Oversize - P/N 5702224 NSN 2805-00-036-0286

Hope this helps.....
