Water pump DOA! cross to civilian part

Unread post by whiterabbit » February 24th, 2014, 12:45 pm

More problems!
Water pump seals are toast or the shaft is rusty from sitting for a dozen yrs empty.
Wiki says: ■58-244 reman water pump from( A1 cardone)
Problem is I can't get it to cross ref at Advance or Autozone. I think I read the pump from an eary 60's Ford Falcon fits but you have to check clearance at a timing bolt.
Is it the one for a 1962 Ford Falcon with the 2.4L 144CI L6 Carb ??? Part # T2061 and 58-204. The pics of the part I think looks like it. A new pump and a remanufactured are listed for it.

WhiteRabbit,
I tried to get pumps from Autozone, NAPA, and others, They were all out of stock at that time.

Try Erik's Military Supply, Eriksmilitarysurplus.com . Go to Military Vehicle Parts, then Cooling Systems. He has them listed for $68.00, if the other suppliers are out of stock.

Hope this helps, Cal

yeah, keep us updated. Mine just dumped it's coolant on me the other day. So I might be looking too.

I'm going to swing by AZ tomorrow and have them order S58-244. Kinda' dislike AZ but if it's a good pump I'll deal with them.
Looks like I can swap the pump without pulling the whole front end.

Buy a rebuild kit and do it that way.
Riv-Rad has them reasonably.

I have a standing order from AutoZone for 20 of them and the last time I was able to get some was about 2 months ago. They are back ordered and not sure when they can get more from their supplier.

I got the A1 Cardone from Carquest a while back. While I didn't have to grind the "boss" off the casting. the impeller design was different from my original. My old one was fully caged kind of like a squirrel cage. The new one had individual vanes. The diameter was slightly too big to fit in the block so I had to grind a little off each one of the vanes. Has worked fine since.

Does anyone know what car these pumps fit? It would make tracking them down a little easier.
Went to AZ and ordered one, should be in tomorrow afternoon. When I get it I'll get some pics of the install and any differences between the original and aftermarket.
