Brake Lines

Unread post by Cobra5 » August 5th, 2008, 9:51 pm

I know I seen a post about this somewhere but can't seem to locate it. Anyway, I'm going to replace all the brake lines and want to make sure these are just 1/4 inch steel tubing that I can get at the local auto parts place. Also, can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier for the covering on these lines?

Thanks!

Tim

Have you tried Rapco? I am not sure, but I think he sell complete brake line sets. But yes they are standard 1/4 brake line that you can get at pep boys autozone etc.

I'll check with on prices and availability of the loom and steel tube. Rapco wants 99.50 for the set plus I'll have to add shipping costs. Might be cheaper to manufacture myself but we shall see. Thanks again!

I think that you will find doing it yourself is the way to go. I did the complete set for my 151. No complicated turns or any problems. I did have to have a friend with a smaller diameter bender make the front set on each wheel from the hose to the Wheel cylinder. You do not need the rock guards (Wire looms) unless you want them for looks. Some places sell the lines with these already on. Good luck!

That small line in the front is the hardest. I did it by hand with no bender. It is my opinion that the loom would hold moisture up against the lines and make them rust out quicker. Also, try to salvage the brake line Ts. I cut the lines next to the nuts and used a deep socket to remove the nuts. I was going to use NOS Ts, but at the time I could not find them. The replacement ones sold at auto parts stores do not have the little bracket for mounting them on the jeep.
