Spark plugs

Unread post by Fil Bonica » August 10th, 2008, 9:51 pm

Just pulled a set of XMJ-17s from a MUTT that was sputtering and backfiring. I replaced them with 2245s and the engine performed perfectly.

Are the two parts interchangeable or did I just have some defective XMJ-17s ?

You might try Car Quest, they had some in Chicago and somewhere else last week and will order them in.

I think Matt and I pretty much cleaned out Texas and points South last week.

Champion 517 is the same plug as the XMJ-17 which was made by Champion. Just new number....

Spark plugs.com seems to still have some autolite 2245's in stock....

I have not seen a good Champion plug since the early 70's! I used to race with a sponsorship from them and all of a sudden the plugs just went south! Could not get a set that would run right. Put in A/C's or Autolites and ran great. I actually dropped them as a sponsor!!! How often do you see that? I have tried them off and on over the years and never had them run as good as the others. They are still in business so they must run good for most, I just never had any luck with them in many years.

Rainman : Yes you did. Now I could use them with regular plugs!

In the mean time I installed a set of 2245s and that took care of the problem for now.

Just ordered a new set of 2245s for spares.

Top Tiger are you still in Florida?
