Are you referring to the vacuum/fuel pump combo? If so that is not a stock pump and nobody has been able to find one. And no it is NOT the same as the M-38. There were many cars from the early 60's on back that used pumps like that but the key points are the mounting bolt pattern and especially the pump actuator and if it was designed to ride on the bottom of a cam, the side of a cam. tho top of a cam or be operated by a pushrod. That type with the laminated plates for the actuation lever usually worked on a push rod or a separate cam mounted on the front of the camshaft. the other thing to check even if the mount is right and it is hitting the bottom of the cam is to make sure that the foot is going in far enough to fully engage the cam. If not bad things could happen with a bang.

I understand Rick, Thanks.

I have always thought I had a fuel delivery problem. The active duty Marine I bought it from had access to lots of stuff while he was restoring it.

I just need a plain jane fuel pump for an A2.

Thanks again,

Steve

Steve, the part # you need for this application is Airtex 928. If you can't get one from the surplus dealers, contact Airtex TECH HOTLINE 1-800-424-7839 and they will give you details of your nearest distributor.

ps... There may soon be news on the combi-pump. Someone (not me) is researching the availability and part number of a compatible Fuel and Vacuum combined pump and we may know the results very soon. Will keep everyone posted. Keep your fingers crossed.

Have you considered using the Dodge slant six fuel pump :?: That is what I have on mine. Mine is an A1 with an A2 windshield. My fuel pump died years ago when there were no NOS A1 electric pumps around. I had a plate I installed over the hole for the vacuum pump, so I removed it and installed the Dodge slant six pump. It was less than 15 bucks at the time. You could run it, but buy a NOS A2 pump when you find one and keep it to install for shows or when you sell it. Just something to think about.

From our Wiki

4. Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter

M151A2…Airtex, customer part number 021163, catalog number 928M, cost USD43, available at Autozone.
or also usable, but not identical fuel pump for mid 60s Valiant with slant six

By not identical that means no nipple for the fording air tube to the carb but the hole is there so something could be fabricated.

Searched Autozone but this part number is not found. Plenty of airtex fuel pumps.

The civilian fuel pump I used was from O'Reilly. I looked it up now and here is what I found. The price has gone up since 2007. I only paid around 15 bucks. It is a fuel pump for a mid 60's Chrysler Slant Six engine. The main difference is there is not provision to vent the space behind the diaphram back to the air cleaner. So no deep water fording, at least up to the fuel pump, with this installed.

Here is a link for Autozone and O'Reilly.

P.S. The hook up is just a little different. But minus the vent line, it is almost a dead ringer for the GI pump. There are quite a few people running this fuel pump.

Raymond, Are you sure there is no vent hole in that pump? I have NEVER seen a pump without one. It is there to allow gasoline to vent out before going into the crankcase and to alert you to a torn diaphragm in the pump. It also vents air in and out as the diaphragm goes up and down. It is either on the the upper or opposite side of the diaphragm from the lines or it is on the mount to the block.

Salt6,

This is because the part number in the Wiki is no longer valid. The AutoZone part number is Airtex 60577. I bought one last summer for 18 bucks and have not had a problem.
