M151A1 Wiring Harness Routing

I am looking for pictures of where the rear harness goes into the frame in the rear of the machine and where it exits up front. I read through this forum regarding how to pull the harness through but I cannot figure where it comes out in the front or for sure where it goes in the back. I made the mistake of removing the existing harness a couple of months ago and did not pull through a wire.... I took a lot of pictures but not enough of the harness. Any help would be appreciated. This forum has been very helpful.

WOW!!!!!! That is what I call documenting a restore!! I also like the garage, Tracks and VW, My kind of place. :mrgreen:
Sorry I can't help with the wiring question, the one I did was a long time ago and we had a pull wire so we just pulled the old one out with the wire and used the wire to pull the new one in.

Hi, the wires are run inside the left main support rail, the rear hole is on the outside near the end of the wheel.

The front hole is on the inside near the rear of the transmission.

As for feeding them through, it will be best to have a helper to pull or feed it, it should be fed in from the front to the rear, I take all the rubber ends off to make it smaller and keep it from jamming, I use a piece of bailing wire and feed it first, I then twist it around the first 8 to 10 inches of the tail light wires and tape over them, with someone on each end pull it from the rear and working it back and forth will help keep it from jamming. The last one I did was an A2 but it is substantially the same.
If you have access to an electrical fishtape use that.
Its stiffer and easier to push through
As Dan said smooth out the cable as much as possible in order to make it easier to pull.

I now know why I could not find the slot where the rear harness exits up front.. When the M151 was welded back together a piece of boiler plate was welded over the slot where the harness exits. I guess I will be drill/cutting a new slot. The pictures helped a lot. Thanks

Dredging up an old thread. Just got a nos a1 harness and was checking out threads that cover this subject. Was also looking at getting the grommets to go with it but having a hard time sourcing when I double checked and noticed that I don't have oblong holes in the sides of the frame on my early as in the attached photos above. They are round and appear to be the same hole size as the rear holes near the lights. They must have made them oblong at some point to make it easier for installation. Another early quirk.
