B/O Light Failure

Unread post by Rainman » September 12th, 2008, 10:47 am

Hey everyone,

Not a mission critical problem, but 2 weeks ago I noticed my black out lights weren't working. Not just one of em, but all of em. I've had difficulty with the pass rear not working since I bought it, replaced the bulb, but never traced out the wiring. Now my others have failed all at once, no problems with any other lights that I am aware of. I must assume it is either my switch, or it's a breaker. Off the top, does anyone have a clue where to start looking, or just RTFM?

I would say the switch is kaput.

Thanks rick that was my hope, cause it's a fairly easy swap out. I have a spare so to speak, it was targeted for the 64 Kaiser, but I'm not working on that right now, so it's a spare. I'll do a few searches and see if repair is an option at all on those, as I seem to remember seeing the inside contacts posted on a thread somewhere. I'll bet ohiomutt has a replacement switch for the Kaiser next time I see him! :) 3 days of rain expected here with today being one of them, but at least I'm not in Galveston

Thank you rick and Ken,
At least one of those threads is the one I was thinking of. For an interesting update, though I have not yet attempted a repair, I attached a trailer today with a set of new style hummer composite lights. When I tested the LED lamps in the composites, the B/O's work on the trailer, so possibly I am looking at a complete bulb failure in all of the vehicle B/O's light bulbs. More info when I tear into the lights...

I say RTFM....:) Only because the -20 will have a good trouble shooting section that will allow you to narrow down the problem and what to replace. Or just start with the switch and go from there.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....
