Head lights and dash lights went out

Unread post by MUTT Vet » September 23rd, 2008, 8:55 am

I was driving in to work today and i was sitting at the traffic light waiting to get onto base when the a faint metallic click sound came from around the ignition switch on the dash and then the head lights and dash lights went out.

I cussed a little and turned off the light and dash switch and then turned them back on. At first nothing happened but after about two seconds i heard that click sound again and everything came back on.

WTH (what the heck)!!!

What would cause something like that to happen? There's no fuses at the switches on the dash and it couldn't be a short because it wouldn't have started working again. Could it be a loose connection or maybe an arcing problem?

You have a short in your light wiring somewhere and it kicked out the breaker in the light switch. It is either an intermittent short or the offending wire burnt and now is not shorting. Go around and see if all of your lights are working. If you do not find anything it could be a bad switch with a weak breaker but not likely. Welcome to the world of offroading an antique!

A breaker in the light switch? Interesting. Is it something i can access and check or will it take swapping it out with a new switch?

I checked all the lights and they come on fine. The brights work and the brake lights work when i step on the brake pedal.

Is there anything you don't know Rick?

There is a LOT I don't know! You guy's just haven't hit on it yet. I am in no way a know it all. Yea, the code nerd's have left me alone after I got a lawyer and I took my own pictures. I am definitaly going to have to put up a fence or barrier trees before spring. This has been going on for 6 years now and I do not see it stopping unless I block the view altogether. One thing I did accomplish is that the town council is going to try and strip the code officer of a lot of his power. The best part of the whole thing, The code official's neighbor has three derelict bus's in his yard in full view!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's all in who you know I guess. Or whose ass you kiss and this boy don't kiss no ass!
