USMC Locking Device

Unread post by Jay Mallari » February 24th, 2009, 3:02 pm

I was planning to fabricate my own using measurements from the one installed on Horst's Barstow mutt.
Luckily, I found this one sitting on the bottom of a box of assorted mutt items. The rusty bracket is steel
and the rest is aluminium. It is very much identical to Horst's.The best bit is that the owner
gave it to me for free :D

Free is always good, paying you to take it is the only way it could be better 8)

Jay, it would be great if you could draw up a detail of that locking unit, so we could work one up.

I'd love to Clell but it's in the Philippines and I'm now back in the UK.

I will see if I can take some pics of the one that is on my jeep and post them as well....won't be for about two weeks though. Somewhere there must be a drawing of it because they manufactured and used them, like the gas cap locking mod.

One of the board members posted a lock thru some holes drilled in the emergency brake bracket...I hope he knows all a thief has to do is slide underneath and back off the e-brake adjusting nut...

All you are trying to do is discourage the 99.9% of thieves that are also lazy and send them on to an easier target. Anyone determined to get into the fuel tank or steal the vehicle will do so regardless of whether the device can be removed with a wrench or the lock or chain cut with bolt cutters.

Disabling E-brake locks is nothing new, I saw a hundred different versions of e-brake locks when I was doing repo work. Cut the cables and good to go. As Raymond said, if they want it they will get it. Boat and car trailer locks, Semi trailer fifth wheel pin locks, I could get around all of them in generally less than a minute. The information is out there. Now you have modern cordless tools to boot!
