When it gets that rough I will just spectate and marvel at the deep pockets. I expect that I might break things when I go out (which I haven't done in years) but when it is guaranteed that you will break something then that is nuts as far as I am concerned. Buy hey, it,s your money and your vehicle. I do admire the workmanship that went into it, nice touch on the driveshaft spring.

I finally made some aluminum panels for front "fenders". I've only done one side so far.

Thanks, there are actually 32 square points on the chassis and suspension  .

I know its been a while since my last post, so here's a few pics of some recent wheelin. The Mutt has been running great; I've been driving it often and beating the hell out of it at offroad parks every chance I get. A few weeks ago I loaded up my camping gear and tools and drove it about 20 miles to Hale Mtn ORV Park, flogged it all weekend, then drove it home. The only carnage was a front hub and I bent the rear link near the joint (which is 2" dia, 1/4" wall tubing with a 1/4" plate gusset reinforcing it). It is still drivable, but the center u-joint rubs the link when articulating.

I'm in the planning/parts gathering stage of an engine and drivetrain swap. I'll probably go with a GM 4.3L V6 on propane, but a Ford 2.9L V6 on pane could work also. I will run a 2wd automatic transmission and a divorce mounted Nissan 720 pickup transfer case. The Nissan t-case is compact, gear driven, has a good low range, and is designed for a vertical orientation; so it should fit in the transmission tunnel without giving up any ground clearance.

Here you can really see how the long side front axle shaft twists up when the tire catches, and it isn't because of the differential, as I replaced it with a full spool.

This is the ledge that bent my rear link arm. My front hub was messed up, so I only had 3 wheels pulling, which required repeated full throttle bashings to make it up. It doesn't look bad from this angle, but that legde is 3-4 feet tall on an already scary steep climb.

Awesome work!

It's a bit extreme for me because it has lost that mutt look. But it's along the same lines as what I wanted to do with mine...before the incident. Keep the outside pure and have fun with everything else. You've given me some great ideas and insight for my new A2.

P.S.
How come no body yells at this guy like I got yelled at (Rick)  Just kiddin' Rick, luv ya brother!
