Ammo can arm rest and lock box
Whats the largest size ammo can that will fit between the seats of the mutt? I have a 40mm? Im going to make a lock box and arm rest for my jeep. I need to be able to secure my gps and other items in it while im in restaurants and buisinesses. The can i have is about 6 inches short. Whats the next size can and what does it look like? If someone has a photo of one that would be a big help. Ebay photo?

Re: Ammo can arm rest and lock box
Hi Matt, I use a 40MM myself. There had been some past postings on this, so you might check the search box in the upper right side of this site. Suggestions for locking, insulating the bottom of the box ( its over the muffler area ), and fastening are included. Ralph and Moose have pictures I'm sure. Seabee

Re: Ammo can arm rest and lock box
Im going to put a spacer of 4 bolts and pipe between the floor and can. Might be about 6-8" so i can store my triangles under it, Since i already have a 40mm can. I need to lift it about that high anyway between the can and floor. Also put a hinge and pad lock, with padding for your arm. Just some thoughts. I'll search it. Thanks.

Re: Ammo can arm rest and lock box
One of the local guys did this with his A2 jeep. On the top of the can he added a OD canvas covered pad to rest the old elbow on.
Re: Ammo can arm rest and lock box
One thing I haven't seen anyone else do is put a battery disconnect switch in the ammo can armrest.
If you really want to be sneaky, run the NEGATIVE lead to the cutoff switch. This confuses the heck out of anyone who figures they'll just hotwire from the battery box, and it also prevents accidental shorts inside the box, or in case of accident in which the box is dislodged and the battery lead insulator is damaged.

Re: Ammo can arm rest and lock box
Rick, what did you mean <<what kind of radio bracket are you using?>>???????
maybe the peace of aluminium that holds the vhf and radio/cd in the internal box....
I would like to inform all of you guys, that in the modification above it is very easy to remove this box only with 4 sqrew, the electrical connection(power, speaker, microphone,rf antenna) are made with mil standard sockets that is very easy to remove them and the radio box(ZARGES) desn't loose the sealed . Also there is a speaker's box in the bottom, that isolate the <<hot floor>> from the main box of radios.
This kind of military box (ZARGES) has internal silent block that minimize the vibration of the electronic equipment.
Here is the schedule of the speaker radio box...
The base
And the covers
