A Danish conversion project

Unread post by Schroder » October 31st, 2010, 3:56 pm

I really enjoy this fantastic website. Incredibly good info here and I a love especially "M151 Mods"

I would like to share some pictures of my M151 A1 from the Danish military in 1968. in 1977 was it bought out by the armye. The last 22 years it stood on a farm, deep out in the countryside. Now I have completely restored the car.

The car will be used for off-road and is therefore changed.

Some of the details:
2 "pipe all the way around the perimeter, which is connected to the stiles.
1 "pipe in the inner edge of the A pillar
Canopy connected to my 2 "pipe and stiles
And other small changes
A new engine and gearbox on the way

I'm going in the future:
Dream of building EFI injection on the engine from a European Opel Omega A 2.4
M151 Differential Lock Kit (But requires a small fortune whit Mil Plus, sow cant afford it at the time)
6-point rollbar

But I will keep you posted

And I apologize for my English is not too good but I hope is understandable.

Sincerely Schroder

Welcome to the Forum Schroder.

A Nice mutt you got there, i like how you have extended the whole fender wells to accommodate the large tires.
Do you still have the original engine and gearbox in it?

Thanks

Yes, extended 8 cementers whit springs from a mercedes and then had to move the shock absorber. Cutting and enhance bear arms to get the right angle again. Think it's been good and not gone and impaired driving characteristics.

Yes, it is the original engine and gearbox, have not found a god replacement. (yet ;-)
I have been looking for engine and gearbox, to replace, but then I have to replace diff to.
Any suggestions?
I think that a engine with a larger capacity would overburden the drivetrain sitting in the car originally.
But having considered the engine and gearbox from a Mercedes GD 300, with 5 speed and reduction gear.

A complete Drivetrain out of a G-Wagen would be bulletproof in a mutt. You'd get central locking and independent diff locks as well. Sadly in our part of the world we don't have any G-Wagen's. Over here the best package is out of a First/Second Generation Toyota 4Runner/Surf.

Have you updated the brakes? or still original?

Yes, the Milplus brakes are just too expensive. I did a self modification for a fraction of that.

Is there anyone who has manufactured or otherwise, could make a diff lock kit itself?

Would love to buy one from MilPlus but 1200euro for each diff complete, is simply too much for me .. Although it really looks nice..

Hope there is someone who has found a better solution?

I would also like a second gear box, and one with a reduction gear.? I have looked at different car gearboxes, but all with a displacement of the shaft output of the gearbox. Jeeps shaft end go out just below the middle, not to come to a sharp angle from the gearbox to the diff.

I know it's many questions, but really wants to improve my jeep so I can use it to great climbing, ...

I know a lot of transfer cases can be clocked, that is the case can be rotated to reposition the outputs. The problem would be ground clearance if you turn the case so both shafts exit in the middle.
If you are only using the vehicle off road you can get an extra set of differentials and weld the spider gears, that would lock the two wheels together. On road it would wear the tires quickly though.

here is a locking differential. German text says it comes without the shorter drive shaft it would need on one side (I have nothing to do with that offer). I don't know but it could be a differential build by Mutt Perini.

I want a diff lock which can be turned off and on. So to weld it, I do not think is a good idea.
I have enough to save up for a MillPlus set.

I have made contact with this German owner, who sells his lock kit, but unfortunately it is only 1 diff. But it's a start ..

As for clutch for toyota 2c engine to the original gearbox, which is used? there are some who have pictures of this building?

Send to nschroder@hotmail.com

Thanks :)

Hi Schroder,
Sorry for the late reply. Here is a link to a album which contains pictures of the modifications regarding the engine, transmission and brakes.
http://s610.photobucket.com/albums/tt18 ... 1QQtppZZ20
As for the mating of the 2C to the M151 gearbox, i used the the original clutch plate from the mutt engine. While the bell housing, fly wheel, pressure plate, clutch fork, bearing, and a pilot bearing all of the Toyota 2C.
