Inspired to Tan ---- Desert Tan

Unread post by sarmadq » March 11th, 2011, 9:39 am

Hi all,

Having been inspired by seeing all the Desert Tan trucks here on G, I had decided sometime ago to go for a Tan too. I just waited for the right color code & when I got hold of that, It didn't take me long to convert my Green/Black Mutt to Desert Tan.

(Authorities, here do not allow OD Green, Camo or any other form of Matte Green color)

The prepping up at home.

It's no where close to the master restorations that I have seen here and been inspired from, its no where close to being perfect but I'm happy its off my chest and wish list in a day's job.

Though, I have come to realize that keeping this color clean of sole marks is a real pain ........ and my son just loves to crawl all over it.

My plans to open-up-each-bolt-and-piece restoration remain & one day that too shall be documented

Tan is the new green  Lookin' good! That last photo looks awesome. These Jeeps look so much better with the windshield folded.

Yes they certainly do, Mr. D 8) .

Sarmadq
Your mutt looks fantastic in it's new shade 8) but I thought tan was also on the "no-go" list of colors that civilians can use? Guess not.

Looks great Sam. I'm also impressed with the craftsmanship of those repro metal lights.
Did you paint the engine bay as well?

Matt, you may be right, but the law states 'military green' and there in the law the Tan cannot be the new green  .
I live in a city that has a post far away, I don't have to venture in that area and they don't venture out here much. Even if someone has an objection (like my dad did), I just followed the law and changed my color from 'military green' :D

Thanks Jay. I too like the craftsmanship on the lights. Just that one day I'll switch to original lens on them, or maybe the LED ones. The metal shell shall stay.

I did paint the bay, but without taking off the engine. Let the valve cover & air filter stay green. I'll snap and post that too.

I REALLY LIKE IT.
When driving with the wind screen in the down position how do you prevent the glass from getting broken? I've seen older Jeeps with windshield covers, but I don't want to use one.

Hey Sam what does the driver's side bumper sticker stand for? Is that a Pakistani DMV kinda thing? And is that some kind of German can on there too? Man if I was you I'd get some Rat Patrol sh*t going on... you and your tan Mutt and deserts and all

Ralph what do you mean? When I drove any of my MVs with the windscreen down, it was always secured to the hood. Either by way of those spring loaded catches used to secure the hood or by a web strap. On the A1's rear view mirror bracket there is a footman loop that is supposed to have a web strap & buckle on it. When the windshield is folded, said strap threads through another footman loop attached to the hood.

The canvas windshield bags/covers were to prevent glare when the w/s was folded down and not give you away to aircraft (so I was told  ). I was also told (by an LEO) that a w/s cover might attrach LEO attention because it hides the pertinant decals from common observation. My reply was "well, you're not supposed to drive with the w/s up and the cover on." Hey- I thought it was kind of funny.

Never had that issue yet. I secure the folded w/s with the strap. Stays down tight.

I was missing the footman loop on the rear view mirror. Found one, and will install with a strap....thanks for the quick come-back.
