cross mating M151Engine to T90 Civilian Tranny

Unread post by deputyvaughn » January 21st, 2012, 12:38 pm

I have a 1962 CJ5 that has been cross-breed-ed with a m151 drivetrain. I like the m151 engine ok, but I'm not impressed with the tranny. I have a chance to get a parts Jeep (about 1957 CJ5) that still has the civilian drivetrain in it.
Question is: has anyone here ever tried to mate a M151 engine to a civilian, three speed, three stick? I believe it's a T90/dana18 transmission and transfer case? Will they even be close enough to try?
I'm thinking I might can use the M151 bellhousing and the civilian clutch disk. The pilot bearing/bushing will have to be assessed on sight after differences in measurements are figured. The length of the imput shaft will have to be assesed also. I don't have the parts Jeep yet to do side by side comparisons.
Worst case scenario I might just use the parts jeep to convert my jeep back to the original civilian configuration, but I'd really like to keep the M151 engine.
