Hey MUTT Vet

I have this thing on the back of my jeep that is invaluable in situations such as you describe. In fact, I have one on all my vehicles. You may want to look into installing one on yours. I'm not sure about the technical nomenclature, but it's commonly referred to as a "spare tire" :P

We need a longer sample size than since '97. To me that just sounds like dumb luck given you've only been doing tubeless for 15 years

Hey Matt

I was "extrapolating"

Oh Ha Ha Raymond! :D

I am aware of the spare tire.

The story is that i was off roading with some buddies in Las Vegas and i ran over a piece of wood with some screws in it. So i had to use the spare.
Later on the very same trip we were driving through an old construction site and i rubbed against some rebar that was hidden by a tumble weed and it cut my side wall; on the same tire i just replaced no less. :o

So a friend helped me pop the tire off the rim and i put a few layers of duct tape on the cut and i threw a new tube in and one of the other guys has on board air installed in his jeep so i was able to air it up and we drove home.

I have been known to stitch up a gash in a sidewall of a 44 inch tire with baling wire and a whole bunch of tire plugs. Did not totally hold air and had to keep the speed down but we were in the woods anyway. Just aired up once in a while. Got me home. As far as a spare, I had one but it was a stock 27 inch diameter tire, the opposite corner would have been almost in the air.

Is there anything you haven't done? You should write a book...I'd buy it!

You should have put the 27 incher on and taken some pictures, that would have been hilarious!

I have pictures somewhere, They are real pictures, on photo paper. I don't know if you young' uns have ever seen them.   Problem is that I do not have a scanner that works and the pictures are in a box with hundreds of others.
That book has been written by a man I had the pleasure of spending a couple of weeks with at his home in Mexico. He was my idol as far as four wheeling. His name was Granville King.
Look for a book called the Jeep Bible by Granville King.

You can take the pictures to Office Depot, Staples, or Kinkos and they can scan all those pictures and put them on a CD or thumb drive for you. I did that for my mom and grandmom with all their old pictures an uploaded them to my Flickr sight. I love old pictures. I'd love to see some of your old black and whites...and yes i'm familiar with paper pictures. :D I actually have an old Polaroid instant camera that i still use from time to time.

You talking about this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Jeep-Bible-Wr ... jeep+bible

I hope so cause i just ordered it.

That's the one, notice the new compared to used price! I see right away that they Photoshoped old Granville out of the picture! He was leaning on the front fender of the Jeep in the original books. I wonder why else the price is so different?

I can't imagine why some of them cost over $100! I noticed on some of the descriptions that there is a CD with it, but that still doesn't warrant that kind of price. I got one that was $22.

I looked at the cover and couldn't see any signs of photoshopping. I wonder if there was another version with him on the cover?

Version one had the picture, it was under where the flash banner is now by the right front fender.
You will like the book, the man was amazing, he could fix anything and he could do it in the middle of the desert with few tools. He always had Superdawg with him! well Superdawg II it was when I was there. He had more derelict vehicles laying around than most junkyards. The thing is that at any time he would decide to just up and get one running again for the hell of it. He had a Jeep Waggoneer that had to have 300,000 miles on it and I swear it never saw a paved road in it's life. No he did not live anywhere near asphalt! Or electric for that matter. Phone? Yea, in town many miles away.

Something very appealing about that kind of life style. Sometimes i think there is too much modernization in this modern world.

You probably wanted this one for a couple of bucks more, third edition which includes building the ultimate Jeep. Personally I just want what Granville had to say.

I was looking at some excerpts from the book and I can see what you mean.

I've already found some quotes I love and would like to put on a T-shirt.

"Jeeps were built by MEN for MEN!"

"We Jeep guys live and die by our noises. From one sound we come up with marvelous rationale about the wheel bearings. From another sound we develop theories about the rearbolt on the No. 3 con rod throw. Creativity runsamuck!"

"Any Jeep which lacks some smidgin of a leak or ooze someplace is nota well used Jeep, scarecely a Jeep at all. If you keep your chromed roll bar, white-lettered tires and waxed look on Sunset Blvd., and the company parking lot you won't have much leak-noise trouble. But if you go out with the Big Boys to rattle a few cages, these're the things you will eventaully find."

Hilarious!
